MUBC Boathouse | Dane Road, Sale

We have a sculling room which has two pairs/doubles, 3 single sculls and it also has a few ergos including a rowperfect. In the main part of the boat house we have 8 eights, 6 fours and 1 coxless four. It also houses numerous sets of blades. There are men's and women's changing rooms with toilets and showers in both.

By Car

Most crews meet up at Robinski's in Fallowfield in order to pick up people for lifts. From there carry on West along Wilbraham Road. Follow Wilbraham Road over Princess Road (Princess Parkway) and through Chorlton. At the end of Wilbraham Road, turn right (virtually straight on) on to Edge Lane. This takes you past Stretford Metrolink Station, which is on a bridge over the Bridgewater Canal. After the bridge, turn left onto Chester Road. Follow this under the M60, about 3/4 mile after the motorway bridge are a set of traffic lights. Turn left at these lights onto Dane Road. The turn off to the boat club is about 1/4 of a mile up on the left hand side. It is an unmarked dirt track, immediately before the bridge over the Canal. If you pass Dane Road Metrolink Station you've just missed it!

By Bike

This route is very similar to the one followed by the car drivers and some people prefer to follow the exact same route. However most people prefer to avoid cycling on Chester Road, which is a busy dual carriageway. To do this follow the above route for cars until Stretford. On the canal bridge there is a left turn about halfway down the descent. Follow this path to the canal towpath and turn right. Follow the canal (should be on your left) for a about a mile until you get to the big black gates of the boathouse. As with car travel, there are a number of other routes that can be taken by bike. The shortest route requires crossing a muddy footpath and is much more pleasent: At the Princess Parkway drop down to Mauldeth Road and carry on until it ends at a rugby pitch. Take the footpath on its right over the field and bridge, o straight across the motorway roundabout then the first right onto the other end of Dane Road which takes you all the way to the boathouse.

By Bus

The number 41 bus goes to Sale (via Wilmslow Rd and Northenden) from Fallowfield (or pretty much anywhere on Oxford Rd / Wilmslow Rd). During the day there is a bus about every 20 mins; it takes about 35 mins (45-55 mins in rush hour) to get from the Fallowfield Sainsbury's to Sale Station. Walk down the ramp on the opposite side of the road to the station, on the left of the canal (i.e. the opposite side of the canal to the King's Ransom pub) and continue in the same direction along the towpath. The boathouse is a 10 min walk or 5 min jog. Fare is about £1.50 single with Finglands, £2.50 single Stagecoach.

By Tram (Metrolink)

Dane Road boathouse is easily accessible by tram. You should catch a bus into Manchester City Centre and get off either at St. Peter's Square or Piccidilly. Trams run form both of these stops approximately one every 6 minutes. You should board a tram travelling towards Altringham and get off at Dane Road (Fare is about £2.75 return and there's a £80 on-the-spot fine if you are caught travelling without a ticket). When you get out of the tram station you turn left and immediately cross the canal bridge. There is a flight of stairs immediately after the bridge on the right-hand side. Having descended the stairs the boathouse is just in front of you. Note, the cost and length of time taken up by this route mean that most people try to find alternative arrangements as soon as possible.
